Why ADC12 Aluminium Is the Right Alloy for Two-Wheeler Levers

New Auto Store Engineering 18 May 2026 5 min read

Not all aluminium is created equal. Here's why we cast every lever and yoke from ADC12-grade ingots — and what that means for strength, finish and weight.

When a rider squeezes a brake or clutch lever, they trust a small aluminium part with their safety. That trust is only earned if the alloy underneath behaves predictably — cycle after cycle, monsoon after monsoon. At New Auto Store we cast every lever and yoke from ADC12-grade aluminium ingots, and that single decision shapes everything downstream.

What ADC12 actually is

ADC12 is an aluminium-silicon-copper die-casting alloy. The silicon content gives it excellent fluidity in the mould, so thin sections fill cleanly without voids. The copper adds strength and hardness. The result is a part that is light, dimensionally stable and able to take a fine surface finish — exactly the properties a lever needs.

Why it matters for levers and yokes

  • Strength-to-weight: levers stay light on the bar without sacrificing the rigidity needed for firm braking feel.
  • Castability: clean fills mean fewer porosity defects, which is critical at the pivot and clamp areas that see the most stress.
  • Finish: ADC12 polishes and coats well, so the OEM look holds up against grime and weather.
  • Consistency: a controlled alloy means part-to-part repeatability across an entire production batch.
A lever is only as good as the metal it starts from. Get the ingot right and the rest of the process has something honest to work with.

How we control quality

We source ingots to a defined chemistry, inspect incoming material, and keep our melt and pour parameters tight. Every batch is checked for dimensional accuracy and visual finish before it is cleared for dispatch. The goal is simple: a replacement part that fits, weighs and feels like the original equipment it replaces.
